The Present: August 9

My grandsons are up, diaper changed, dressed, fed, and cleaned up after. Now to finish my weekly blog…with many interruptions to be sure. I understand why television is so popular with my son. It is the only hope of peace with the five year old. It does nothing for the 23 month old, however. He demands constant supervision. So the five year old is watching cartoons (it is Saturday morning, after all) as I write this, and the 23 month old is asking me to help him put toys in a bag every other sentence or so. The five year old does not play well with the 23 month old because his preferred play involves tormenting the twenty three month old and making him cry. In fact, he just took one of his toys and started downstairs with it, which was dangerous (we keep a gate locked there for safety which) and prompted the 23 month old to scream and cry. So then I had to punish the five year old. Sigh.

Since my blog last week we learned that we have been declined for the building purchase loan.  We applied for the loan with the same bank that gave us the start up loan funds. That bank encouraged us to apply with the Community Venture Corporation, which works with other banks in the community to help start ups like us. I talked with a loan officer there and she said she would contact some banks with whom I am familiar. I will call the loan officer on Monday to determine next steps.

I also know a gentleman at our church who has the capacity to loan us the money. He said he was willing to talk to me, just not this past week. Hopefully he will be available next week.

For the rest of this rainy Saturday, Lawrence and I are going to an antiques show with our grandsons to enter a drawing for $500 in antiques. It is housed in the school our older two sons attended when we first moved to Lexington. How fun…I love living in the same community for the past twenty years and connecting the dots over time. I know where to go for needed services and who to trust. I can’t imagine moving to a new “retirement community” in some warmer climate. I do hope large malls never completely go away though. The one here in Lexington is so fun to visit in the dreary months of winter.

For now I am going to enjoy each warm day that I don’t have to bundle up the kids and myself.
