This week I learned that my husband is going to retire earlier than we planned because of all the changes to the Kentucky Teachers Retirement System. I am happy he is retiring after this year because I need his help at the club. He has degrees in art, recreation, and physical education and has spent his career teaching elementary, middle and high school students. When we were young we dreamed of opening a summer camp for children in New York, where his Uncle Pete owned some land.

After directing a daytime summer camp for children at Sayre School for six years, I decided I did not want to conduct an overnight camp. As time went on, I decided I wanted to focus on helping older adults, not children. I spent the first half of my career helping children, and now I want to help seniors. If I live to be 85, helping seniors will be the second half of my career. Only God knows if that will happen. In any event, I am happy to be doing all I can, taking one day at a time and making the most of it as God gives me strength.

Art and physical recreation and exercise are an important part of what we do at the club. I teach many art lessons there. And of course we exercise for fun and physical improvement daily. I am looking forward to next summer and beyond, when Lawrence will be able to help. God willing.
