I listened to a Ted Talk online that you might find interesting. It was from a gerontologist speaking on how our culture views aging and how the baby boomers are going to change how our culture views aging: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijbgcX3vIWs
The title, Elderhood Rising–The Dawn of a New World Age, was interesting too because it is similar to how I first advertised the health club for seniors. I called it the dawning of a new age in senior services. I truly believe we are the wave of the future. And that is why we are having trouble attracting new members. People in general don’t understand what a beautiful gift we are for people who are aging (everyone). I know I sound like I am bragging here, so please forgive me, but I have to sound like I am bragging to tell it like it is. We are the best! We are a health club JUST for seniors to help them have their best health and quality of life possible. Every neighborhood should have a health club for seniors.
Ideally, people in their fifties would join the club and come once a month to do an interactive activity, have a spa treatment, eat a meal or exercise with us and have the nurse take a few vital signs and ask questions. The same for people in their sixties. Then, when one is in their seventies, they would benefit from coming to the club once a week and doing the same. In one’s eighties, two or three times a week would be ideal, and staying the whole day. In one’s nineties, all day, every day may suit them best. Of course, at any age, for some people, health declines to a point where they would benefit from being at the club every day all day and having help at home too. We can help there too. We are also a great source of information and referrals. Joining a health club for seniors is the ideal way to age well…to prevent bad things from happening or to catch them before they get worse. And that applies to physical events and well as mental and social and financial. I know from personal family experience that it does not take long to be wiped out financially when one has dementia. Predators are actively seeking out those with dementia constantly. Oh, and speaking of financial matters…did you know that we are the least expensive and highest quality way to age well?
May you and yours have a blessed week ahead.
