Lockers are expensive (one quote was over $6,000, and that did not include the locks), yet well worth an investment. I just want to make sure we get the best price and the right amount of lockers to accommodate every member. The vision is for each member to claim a locker at the beginning of their time at the club. A key will be in the door. Taking the key will lock the locker. The key will have a clip on it, to secure it to the member’s name badge. The key will also have a number and a color that corresponds with the locker they have chosen. First come, first served. Lockers will not be ‘saved’ day to day. Twenty eight lockers will be full sized (12″ wide, 12″ deep and 72″ tall) and twelve will be triple stacked (12″ wide, 12″ deep, and 24″ high).
Hopefully, we will be able to choose 24 colors (there is another chart of available colors, not shown here) and place them aesthetically to facilitate an easy way to remember where a particular locker is located at the end of the day. Don’t snicker. I know plenty of young people who have forgotten where they parked their car in a big parking lot.

Another vision is to have a locked building, accessible only to members who have a membership card to swipe at the door to gain entry. The membership card will also become a name tag, so we can be friendly with each other by knowing one another’s names quickly by looking at our name tags. The locker keys will be clipped onto the name tags/membership cards. And the number on the key will determine the seating arrangement during breakfast, lunch and Tea and a Tale Time. All the chairs will be numbered. So, just as locker locations may change day to day, so will the seating arrangements. Members who have been diagnosed with dementia and who suffer from behavioral issues will choose lockers from a group of lockers near the Nolan Nook ( a leather sectional seating arrangement in the gym).

The wiring began last week. I met with the electrician and the phone/computer wiring contractors. We also need to do the cable/internet wiring. Soon the plaster board will go up and the flooring will go down. Feel free to call me for a tour if you are curious.

May you have a loving and romantic Valentine’s Day week! https://www.history.com/topics/valentines-day/history-of-valentines-day
