December 10, 2016
This morning was delicious. For the first Saturday in a long time I did not have to get up and get busy right away. I still woke up at my usual 5:30, but took my time getting out of bed, getting breakfast, and taking a hot bath. I love a hot bath in the cold weather. I also love getting under the electric blanket after. My 91 year old mother in law slept late this morning. My husband did his usual morning routine which does not involve me. As I lay there, thinking, this poem came to me:
You call yourself a Christian
At church you smile and smile and smile
You call yourself a Christian
But for your elderly you won’t go the extra mile
You call yourself a Christian
As missionaries you send far to roam
You call yourself a Christian
And here in town you put your elderly in a nursing home
You call yourself a Christian
And you make your disabled elderly stay home, all alone
You call yourself a Christian
You say Jesus is my guide
You call yourself a Christian
But your selfishness and love of money you do hide
You call yourself a Christian
So you believe you are to honor your father and mother
You call yourself a Christian
But you only honor them if they are not a bother
You call yourself a Christian
As to foreign countries you travel to ‘save’
You call yourself a Christian
but to the sick and dying in your church you merely give a wave
You call yourself a Christian
While you live in your pretend world
You call yourself a Christian
As your ‘loved ones’ into pain and suffering are hurled
You call yourself a Christian
Please add the word hypocrite at the end
