Our third grandson was born yesterday, after two days of struggling to enter this world. Poor mommy. Our son Eli spent most of Thursday and all of Friday and most of Saturday with his newest baby’s mother, so it was I who took care of the two big brothers. I had help from school, daycare, and two teenage girls babysitting. Oh, and Uncle Jacob and Grandpa. Thank you to all! Even though I was not with my grandsons all the time they were in my care, it was still up to me to orchestrate it all. Reminds me of how a caregiver of a person over the age of 50 should rely on others to help. It is really too much for one person unless you want to give up your entire life to care giving, which is not always possible (for financial and other reasons) and can be very unhealthy (mentally and physically) for the caregiver.

New life is always a miracle. I believe all life is from God, new or old. If God did not want you to be on earth, you would not be here. It is not up to me or you to decide who is to live or die. I personally do not want to be kept alive artificially, however. That is taking away God’s plan for my life. No feeding tubes or artificial respiration for me. And if I have a heart attack or some accident and have not been breathing for three or more minutes, do not resuscitate me. I want to go to be with God, rather than live on here on earth dependent on others for my care because I suffered brain damage from being oxygen deprived for too long.

This week we are looking for a volunteer to help with our Missions Club. We meet Tuesday mornings to learn of a particular missionary’s needs and then we work to make a project or write cards to cheer and encourage to send to the missionary. Dresses from pillowcases for little girls, knitted hats for children, and decorated blankets are examples of past projects. Find us in the gym’s Nolan Nook at 10:30.
