Last week I attended PD-201 at Crestwood Christian Church during a Parkinson’s Support Group special meeting where I learned that there is a dynamic speaker named Adina Cook who gives presentations to help those who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and their friends and families. After the program, she suggested I attend her PD-101 as well.
This interactive program includes practical information on living life to the fullest and tackling the daily challenges of life with PD. As someone who has lived with PD for the past 14 years, program leader Adina Cook shares many funny, sometimes touching, stories on how she and you or your family member with PD can win many of the daily battles associated with PD. The ultimate goal of the program is to encourage and empower those living with PD to take back control of their lives and live lives with purpose and hope in spite of their PD diagnosis.
Cook earned a degree from Ohio State University in Psychology with an emphasis on life span development. For nearly a decade she worked with a consortium of 13 hospitals focusing on cancer research studies. She has also served as Children’s Pastor at Christ Church United Methodist in Louisville, and currently counsels PD patients and their families.
You can learn more about her presentations and other events concerning PD in the Lexington area at https://www.facebook.com/LexingtonAreaParkinsonsSupportGroup/
I also learned that the Hilliard Lyons Wealth Investors group have an excellent publication called “Caring for Your Aging Parents”. They brought several copies to the event we hosted last Tuesday and we still have a few left if you would like to pick up a copy. It could also be titled “Preparing Yourself for a Time When You Will Need Some Help”. I especially liked the checklist.
